Installing decorative moulding is a quick and easy process that makes rooms look brand new. The process usually only takes a couple of hours depending on the size of the room and should last for as long as you own your home. Decorative moulding is offered in many styles, so the first step in your project will be to figure out what kind of moulding design you like.
Step 1.
Collect measurements of the walls you are going to be working with and order the moulding for each wall section. Corner blocks might also be of interest for a simple and professional looking installation.
Step 2.
Use a pencil to lightly mark the wall studs. Be sure to make each mark at the same height.
Step 3.
Cut each section of moulding to fit between the two wall corners. At this point, you will also want to predrill holes at each wall stud where it will be nailed into place.
Step 4.
Have a friend hold the moulding in place along the wall and use a hammer to lightly nail each section into place. Be careful not to damage the moulding when securing it onto the wall.
Step 5.
Use wood putty to cover nail holes and any damage caused by installation. Now you may paint or treat the moulding to your final specification.
